What Redditors are Saying
TL;DR Contacting LEGO Customer Service If you have missing or damaged pieces from a new set, the first step is to contact LEGO customer service. They are known for their excellent customer support and will often send replacement parts free of charge [1:2], [2:9]. You can reach them through their website or by calling their support line [4:1]. Be prepared to provide the set number and the part numbers if possible, which can be found in the back of the instruction manual or on LEGO's website [1:4]. Using LEGO's Pick a Brick and Bricks & Pieces Services LEGO offers two services for buying individual parts: Pick a Brick and Bricks & Pieces. These services allow you to purchase specific pieces directly from LEGO. The Pick a Brick service is generally used for more common parts, while Bricks & Pieces can be used for a wider variety of pieces, including those from specific sets [1:7], [3:1]. Note that there may be a service fee associated with these orders, and availability can vary based on whether the piece is still in production [3:1], [3:5]. Bricklink for Older or Retired Sets For older or retired sets, Bricklink is often the best option. Bricklink is an online marketplace where you can buy individual LEGO pieces from various sellers. While the interface can be challenging to navigate, using features like wish lists and the "easy buy" button can help streamline the process and minimize shipping costs [5:2], [5:3]. Rebrickable is another useful site that can help you create a list of needed parts and then export it to Bricklink [5:3]. Handling Denied Requests If your request for replacement parts is denied, it's important to contact LEGO customer service directly. Sometimes automated systems can mistakenly flag requests, but speaking with a representative can often resolve the issue [4:1], [4:3]. If you've been banned from requesting parts, it may be due to perceived abuse of the system, and providing proof of recent retail purchases can help clarify the situation [4:8]. Tips for Success By following these steps, you can efficiently replace missing LEGO pieces and continue building without interruption. How to Replace Missing LEGO Pieces

Does Lego Send Replacement Pieces?

they'll send replacement parts if they're missing or deformed from the set. won't do anything about stolen parts. you'll have to either get them from whoever stole them in the first place. or buy some new strings. lego might have them available on their pick a brick system or bricklink.

They replaced stolen parts for me before. I was open with them that I bought the set second hand and several parts were damaged and a few missing. They replaced all of it at no charge.

Well, if you paid for the product, parts were missing and you informed Lego, I’d hardly be saying they replaced stolen parts for you. On legos end the replaced missing parts Edit : How in any way shape or form were these parts ‘stolen’ lmao he literally said the parts were damaged and missing so how did Lego replace stolen parts? 😂😂😂

I mean he could just tell the customer service they re missing. They don’t need to know the whole story. Also sometimes they even do replacements for occasions like this, for example they sent my father a whole bag of parts for an compartment of the Saturn V because he lost it while moving.

You can always look up part numbers in the back of the manuals. If you tossed it you will find digital versions on the Lego and other sites.

For context, one of my students took the strings and headstock section of this build from my classroom today. I have no idea what the piece numbers are, let alone what is missing except the stings. I just reeeeeeeally don't want to buy another one of these, as it was a Christmas gift. 😅

If you look up the set in the lego.com pick a brick you can buy parts from the set. I have an order awaiting shipment with the strings so j can make both the red and black guitar. I think they were like $12 for the strings

Reach out to customer service and explain what happened. Best-case scenario, they offer you no-charge replacements. Mid-case scenario, they sell you replacements. Worst-case scenario, they don't have the parts available and you'll have to get them on Bricklink.

Much more likely they were stuck in the bag or lost under something. I own over 100 sets and I haven’t had a real missing piece that I didn’t find later yet.

I'm with you, I've bought a few of the larger sets and had to contact Lego several times for missing pieces. Usually I have the piece on hand and can keep building, but twice I've had to stop the build and wait a week for a piece to show up in the mail.

Glad to see that they still do this. In 2000 my B-Wing fell off a shelf and I lost some pieces in the crash. I called Lego to order (with an intent to pay for) the missing pieces. The lady I spoke with was so nice, so patient, we went through the manual and she sent the pieces to me for free. I found the missing pieces deep in my printer about 6 months later.

Honestly my experience with pick a brick was not the greatest. I ordered June 17 and the order arrived July 12 with quite a few missing peices. I talked to Lego Costumer service and they set me up a replacement order. The order was sitting in a weird status for a while so I asked about it and the support said that it was indeed still proccesed and would arrive around August. Nothing arrived so I eventually contacted them again September 28th wondering if my order was indeed still confirmed and the support said it was strange it took so long said expect late October for my order to be shipped Eventually the replacements arrived November 14 but it was just such a long process. I think I will order from bricklink next time to avoid the hassle.

It’s free. It’s hard to say if you can get retired set pieces replaced. The only way to know is to look up the set via the missing pieces site, which is also free and can be done very quickly.

They aren't guaranteed to have every piece, but most from the last few years should be available. Specialised prints and moulds for specific sets though, obviously not.

Or those that are damaged. And it will generally only be currently in-production pieces, with maybe a few older pieces available (but not guaranteed). If you want to buy pieces that you have lost, you can use the Bricks & Pieces service on lego.com, although the recent change has meant that the service fee can make it really expensive. It may be worth checking out bricklink.com for old pieces, or if you only need a few, as the shipping costs may be lower than the service fee from LEGO.

I've maybe ordered 5 parts over a 12 month period all from new sets that were incorrect or missing. I don't think that's an abuse of a part system. If I need many ill bricklink them. And every time the rep is just as confused because there is no alert or note on my VIP account or address.

Bans typically happen with people they believe are abusing the lost piece system - such as prdering a lot of lost pieces. If you have been ordering a lot of lost pieces and can show that they are recent retail purchases through receipts you should have no problem. If it's from 2nd hand purchases (garage sales, ebay, craigslist) nothing is likely to change

Best way to buy a few missing pieces for many sets?
Posted by HiImRG · in r/lego · 3 years ago
I moved and my sets broke. Rebuilt them but a lot of them are missing pueces, what’s the best way to buy these individual pieces? I tried bricklink but the interface was hard to navigate and each brick being from different stores made the shipping costs high. Is there any other better option, or maybe something better I can do on bricklink?

I had similar issues with bricklink. The way I use it is I put all the pieces I need in a wish list (should be an option to do so on each part page). Once you have a wishlist, there is an easy buy button that will simplify the process and get you your parts from as few stores as possible. You can set options to exclude international stores and such. One downside is that a lot of stores have minimum buys, so if there’s a cart with one or two random pieces, you may have to add something to the cart. I usually look for minifigs that I want.

Bricklink and Lego.com are the best places. I agree that the Bricklink interface isn't that great. I found the Rebrickable website to be much more intuitive. You can't find what you want, and then export a list to Bricklink. On both Bricklink and Rebrickable, you can search for the set, and it will bring up a list of all the parts, making it easier to find the missioning pieces. Lego.com will allow you to do that too, but not for really old sets (I think). Bricklink has ALL the pieces, but it's loud of different stores, so you may have to buy from several of them. Each charges shipping, so it can get really expensive, really quickly, of you only want a few things. Also, once you created your wanted list, you can do an autoselect buy, to get all your pieces from the best places. However, sometimes pieces are removed from the list, so check that everything has gone through when you're building your carts. Lego.com has two options. Pick a Brick (Shop by > Bricks > Pick a Brick) or Bricks and Pieces (Support > Buy Bricks). Pick a Brick has a limited selection, but you can but as many as you like. Bricks and Pieces had a much, much broader range, but you're limited to 200 of any one piece per order. Pricing can be different address the two, bizarrely, so check both. The big thing is that shipping charges are the same as good anything else you but on the website, and can be combined with other purchases, even though they're skipped out separately. So in the US, if you spend $35 or more, in total, you get free shipping on the entire order. This means it can end up being far less expensive than Bricklink, even if the individual piece costs are a little more.

Replace missing parts before selling or sell as is?
Posted by duckquackattack · in r/lego · 4 years ago
I’m wondering if anyone has experience with this. I’m selling some of my old sets, and I’m missing 2 or 3 pieces for some of them. Is it worth it to replace them on bricklink before selling? Will the price increase for a complete set be that much better? Or if I just sell them as is and tell the buyer which pieces are missing exactly.

Be careful if you replace the parts - I don't mind myself, but there are some who would be upset if some parts were of the wrong era - for instance, a set from 2005 with a "patent pending" brick. If its only a few pieces missing, you might be better off saying which ones are missing in your listing, and that way people can source their own extra parts. It also depends on what's missing. If it's a couple of 1x1 u-clip plates in a common colour, you won't need to reduce the price much. If it's exclusive printed parts or desirable minifigures, the price will drop a lot more

I know this is a big long shot, but I know LEGO replaces missing pieces of sets sometimes. I've been looking for a lego set for my dad for months that is the original set we ever built together. I found it, and bought it, but it is missing one small piece. Set is from 2000 or 2001. Any chance of getting the piece or a similar one?? You may have better luck on bricklink.com. Almost any part available from fellow lego fans. While lego may still produce the part you’re looking for they normally only replace free of charge for sets recently purchase in new condition. Good luck!

Lego have all sets going back as far as 2002 if not before on their website, with a list of all the pieces available. Obviously the further back you go, the less pieces are left - those sets aren't in production so the parts available are those used in current production sets or very rarely those that still have some old stock left. If its a 20 year old set and the part is grey or brown, you won't find it from Lego. They changed the colours for those shades in 2004 and their stock is long since gone. As others have said, failing Lego, your best bet is Bricklink. There are a handful of pieces not being sold right now, but if you're missing one of those then you're going to have a nightmare finding it anywhere

If it is still in production, then yes, they can send it, although likely through the Bricks and Pieces service that you post for. It's not expensive, and shipping is usually free if you buy other stuff. But if it was a specialist piece, or something they no longer make, then Bricklink is going to be your friend.

There’s a limit on what will by automatically processed by any attempt to get replacement parts through Bricks and Pieces. That limit can be circumvented by speaking to a customer service representative over the phone from my experience. I received nearly 20 solid studs instead of studs with holes on an architecture build and had to speak to someone after the online request was denied.

Maybe I misunderstand you, but 'some missing pieces' (aka: stuff that got lost along the way in the years you owned the sets) is not a reason to file replacement orders.. If available, you can order the bricks from the site (or use bricklink) Replacement orders are for new Lego sets that contain damaged bricks, or bricks that are missing completely. If you request multiple bricks, the orders are flagged and withheld. This is to stop abuse of the option..

Why does Lego send missing pieces free?

I understand on occasion, people will have missing pieces from a set. However I don’t see why Lego would send them free as people could lie and get these pieces free to rebuild sets for no price (upon ordering multiple pieces from different accounts). Does anybody know how or why this is the case?

There are (very, very rarely) missing pieces so it's a good courtesy to offer the service. They can track who is using it a lot and ban them, especially if they keep requesting rare parts. That said, I've only ever had one missing piece in hundreds of sets but I was surprised that I was able to just reorder it online without speaking to a representative. I guess I assumed that would only be available for small, cheap pieces, but the piece I was missing was neither of those. (I was literally missing the giant front printed plate of one of those Hogwarts Moments book sets. The set came with two of the unprinted back cover instead.)

It’s just kindness. They’re a pretty good company as far as companies go. If they suspect someone of abusing the system then that person and their address and or payment method could be permanently banned from the Lego website.

It's not kindness, they're a massively profitable business, and this is part of their business strategy. Sending out a few missing parts here and there isn't super expensive, as long as it's not abused too much (and they can easily prevent that with monitoring - if you claim a full set worth of missing parts, they'll see through it pretty fast, and just deny any further requests from you). If parts are missing, they are pretty much required to rectify the situation anyway, so the alternative would be to demand proof, and check that proof, which is a lot more expensive than just sending the parts in the first place; and it would also reflect negatively on their brand image, whereas just sending the parts makes them look good. And for a company like Lego, brand image is incredibly important - if you feel positively about the brand, chances are you'll buy Lego for your kids, and they'll feel good about it too, and they'll buy Lego for themselves when they grow up, and they will buy Lego for their kids. Anyone can make Lego-style bricks, and the competition sells them cheaper - so what Lego capitalize on here is that brand image, childhood memories, nostalgia, but also positive experiences wrt reliability, customer support, and product quality. These things are their competitive edge, and they need to go above and beyond to maintain them.

And it’s just good business. Lego has competition who sell their sets far cheaper. Even if someone is hustling them for a dozen pieces it makes far more sense to send them less than $1 worth of pieces for free than risk upsetting a customer who spends thousands of dollars a year on their product and driving them into the hands of the competition.

10 year old me did this, it works if you pick like 2-3 parts and MAYBE a minifigure you can get away with it. I think it's if you try getting more than a certain amount of pieces in an order they'll decline it, or if you make a certain amount of missing piece requests within a set timeframe

Yeah you clearly didn't try hard enough. 10 year old me aka me now has ordered an entire 240 set over the course of a few months. You know why it's not really theft because they are charging you thousands of fucking dollars for moulded plastic you could literally 100% copy yourself. Lego is extremely underhanded, poor in quality and bad value. The stickers rather than painted pieces are an example. Shit not fitting inside the sets the come with another. Inaccurate franchised productions at exorbitant pricing. Truly a fools world we live in! I've worked at lego and can tell you what you are getting isn't the slightest bit of value for money nor do they generally give a fuck about the customer or their feedback. This is just honesty and to be real I think people just need to think about what they are saying and purchasing its fucking mind blowing. Hans.

because they give people the benefit of the doubt and im sure they have a way to track who orders how many pieces and they aren't stupid enough to let someone order thousands of pieces. its much better to send out the few people less than a dollar worth of pieces rather than charge people for a mistake on lego's end

I have been building Lego for the past 40 years and I have never had a set that was missing a/or piece(s) from it. For context, I also keep the leftover pieces from the sets that I have built just in case if I have this issue. To know that Lego has my back and will send me free pieces should they be missing from a set is fantastic. To tell you the truth the “missing” pieces that I have had were the small ones still in a bag or fell off the table.

Where to buy missing lego pieces?
Posted by DitiIsCool · in r/lego · 6 months ago
I rebuilt my Lego Ninjago Rattlecopter that I got about a decade ago and I'm missing 5 pieces. I know Lego doesn't give you pieces for old lego sets. I've looked at bricklinks but each piece would cost over $5 due to shipping. Are there any cheaper alternatives?

See if you can find a store that has all the pieces you need. The shipping will be roughly the same for 1 piece vs. 5 pieces. A good way to do this is to create a Wanted List.

See if you have a local second hand LEGO store. They may have an assorted pile where people can buy by weight, or they may even have a bricklink store but allow you to pick it up in shop.

Yup, create a wanted list and then buy all and bricklink will pull it from as few stores as possible.

Yeah that’s about how much pieces are when you are buying very low quantity like this. The more pieces you buy the more the shipping is fair.

You can buy replacement pieces from Lego if they're pieces still in production. Search "Lego bricks and pieces" and you can punch in the set number and it'll show you what pieces from the sets inventory are still available. Otherwise Bricklink is your best alternative. Like others have suggested, try finding one store with all the pieces in stock, that will be much easier if you make a wanted list and use the buy all option in the wanted list interface.

How to replace missing LEGO pieces
Here are some key considerations for replacing missing LEGO pieces:
Check Your Inventory: Before replacing pieces, thoroughly search your home and check all storage containers, bags, and under furniture to ensure the piece isn't misplaced.
LEGO Customer Service: LEGO offers a service where you can order replacement parts directly from their website. You’ll need to provide the set number and the specific pieces you need.
LEGO Pick a Brick: Use the LEGO Pick a Brick service, available on their website, to find and order individual bricks and elements.
Third-Party Sellers: Websites like BrickLink and Brick Owl allow you to buy individual LEGO pieces from other collectors and sellers. This can be a great option for hard-to-find pieces.
Local LEGO Stores: If you have a LEGO store nearby, they often have a "Pick a Brick" wall where you can find various pieces. Some stores may also assist with ordering specific parts.
Community Resources: Join LEGO fan forums or local LEGO clubs. Members often have spare pieces and may be willing to trade or sell them.
Recommendation: Start with the official LEGO Customer Service for the most reliable and authentic replacements. If you need pieces quickly or are looking for rare items, consider using BrickLink or local LEGO stores. This approach ensures you maintain the quality and integrity of your LEGO builds.
